an important topic

This is an important topic. The responses have been well thought out. During the 1970’s I often found Playboy, Penthouse, and Hustler on magazine racks in grocery stores and drug stores. I no longer do, and I am glad for the change. Those magazines are not even on sale in 7 Eleven stores, although I am sometimes unhappy to find Playboy for sale in Borders’ Books. Of course, one can find anything on the internet, but one has to go looking for it. It does not reach out and grab one.

I like erotic art, which I define as tasteful photographs of beautiful nude women that are taken with respect for the subjects, and which are not explicitly sexual. I have not found that my appreciation of erotic art is leading to a appetite for more explicit stuff. I continue to find hard core pornography distasteful. If anything, my interest in erotic art enforces my celibacy, because I cannot attract women who resemble the models I admire. I am mature enough not to think less of myself as a result, or to feel that I am being unfairly denied what I deserve.

I think R rated movies can be harmful too. They often portray non-marital sexuality as more appealing than marital sexuality. They rarely if ever describe the negative consequences of non-marital sexuality, such as jealousy, guilt, unwanted pregnancy, and venereal disease.

 

One more point:

Michael Medved and others have demonstrated that R rated movies are usually less profitable than PG and G rated movies. Nevertheless, most Hollywood movies are R rated. Hollywood producers claim that their movies mirror the values of the American people. In truth, they mirror the decadent values of Hollywood.

 

The impact of porn can be both bad and good on young people. I was able to access a good amount of porn as a kid, mostly magazines. Of course it affected my expectations of women in relationships, but by the time I was with a couple of women I was able to figure out pretty quickly what the reality of relationships was. Plus, younger people are usually a lot hornier and have sex on the mind all the time anyhow. I got very good advice on sex from some of the porno mags I read as a kid and when I tried some of the stuff out on the girls, including some who were much more experienced than I was, they were quite pleased and impressed. I think that porn also shows different and exciting ways of havinng sex and can give people fun new ideas, it really can be educational.

It can also spread mysogyny, as a lot of the porn out there has lots of stupid mysogynistic twists to it, and a lot of the girls get screwed over in the business/financial end. You can certainly get unrealistic expectations of your lover's abilities, willingness, or appearance. It's a lot of work to maintain a porno god/goddess body, and people naturally might not be that horny all the time. Porn is about fantasy.

 

What a twisted statistic! The movie industry has shown time and again that the largest segment of movie-goers (ages 15-25) are those that go to PG and PG-13 movies. Some producers will modify their films to avoid an R rating just for this purpose. That doesn't mean the public doesn't want to see the content of the R movies but it has more to do with who is spending all the money at the movies. If the kids with their parents' money cannot get into the R-rated movie the industry will lose a large segment of the population.

 

Look up stress responce and Stimulus in Wikipedia. The hormones increase given you a high. When the high is not enough people look to porn and drugs in order to get an even bigger high.

So is porn the problem or the brain chemistry? What came first brain chemistry or porn?

 

And all those things go away after marriage? What about the negative consequences of marital sex? For instance, having a baby. Not every married couple wants kids. How about jealousy when your partner has done something in their past that you want to try, but they don't want try it with you? How about guilt over coercing your partner into doing something they didn't want to do? And what about a venereal disease that neither of you knew they had, or one didn't tell the other? For every 'negative' of non-marital sex, that same negative can be found in marital sex. With the exception of say increasing your chances at getting STDs from multiple partners.

Non-marital sex is more appealing for a number of reasons to me. One, you're allowed to explore your sexuality to the fullest extent. Two, you don't always have to wake up next to a person whom you did something with the night before that made you uncomfortable. Three, come on, life experiences... Not to mention picking up how to do a few tricks in bed...

 

I believe porn is very capable of numbing your senses to even regular sexual practices. So you continue to the next level and stay on until that also is a mediocre act.

In certain aspects it has affected my regular sexlife but in a better way. I have greater control over my orgasms because of this "numbing" effect and ive learned a lot of real cool moves.
